Someone once said -

"There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for the people who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living." Amen

Happy Black Friday

Black Friday, how did it start and why? It's said that it began way back in the 1960s, I remember then...

and it became really popular in the 1980s when retailers stated it was the day that they went from being in the "red" to being in the "black" because of all the shoppers. :)

Fact: In 2010 212 million shoppers were out spending $39-billion on Black Friday! WOW!!!

In 1953, someone at Swanson severely overestimated the amount of turkey Americans would consume that Thanksgiving. With 260 tons of frozen birds to get rid of, a company salesman named Gerry Thomas ordered 5,000 aluminum trays, recruited an assembly line of women armed with spatulas and ice-cream scoops and began creating mini-feasts of turkey, corn-bread dressing, peas and sweet potatoes — creating the first-ever TV dinner. Thomas later said he got the idea from neatly packaged airplane food.

The woman who wrote the classic nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb" also played an integral role in making Thanksgiving a national holiday. After a 17-year letter-writing campaign, magazine editor Sarah Josepha Hale finally convinced President Abraham Lincoln to issue an 1863 decree recognizing the historic tradition.

Thanksgiving is ruled by two very powerful f-words: "food" and "football." Nearly as old as the sport itself, the tradition of watching football on Thanksgiving began in 1876, when the newly formed American Intercollegiate Football Association held its first championship game. Less than a decade later, more than 5,000 club, college and high school football teams held games on Thanksgiving, with match-ups between Princeton and Yale drawing more than 40,000 fans out from their dining rooms. 1934 marked the first NFL game held on Thanksgiving when the Detroit Lions took on the Chicago Bears. The Lions have played on Thanksgiving ever since — except, of course, when the team was called away to serve during World War II.

Veteran's Day

Happy Veteran's Day
Every year, on 11 November at 11 am – the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month – we pause to remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars, conflicts and peace operations.
At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, a steady stream of visitors arrived Saturday morning as the names of the 58,000 people on the wall were being read over a loudspeaker.
Some visitors took pictures, others made rubbings of names, and some left mementos: a leather jacket, a flag made out of construction paper, pictures of young soldiers and even several snow globes with an American eagle inside.

Each year the Department of Veterans’ Affairs produces a commemorative poster for Remembrance Day. The theme of this year’s poster is the commemoration of Australian forces in the Vietnam War 1962–1975. The poster features an image of Royal Australian Air Force and Australian Army servicemen rushing a wounded soldier from an Iroquois helicopter for treatment at the 8th Field Ambulance in Nui Dat, Vietnam. The casualty is a member of 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, wounded in the battle of Suoi Chau Pha on 6 August 1967.

How To Keep Spiders Out Of Your Home With Peppermint Oil
UPDATE NOVEMBER: 100s of people are arriving at this blog post right now. I know you are all coming from Facebook, but can you let me know which page has sent you so I can thank them. Please pop over to our Facebook page and let us know :)
I hate, hate, HATE spiders.
Luckily essential oils come to the rescue again and now I use peppermint oil to all but eradicate spiders from my home. Here’s what you do…
Simply fill a spray bottle with tap water and add 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil. Give it a smell to make sure the water smells minty, if not add a few more drops. Then you simply need to spray the peppermint water in the cracks and gaps where spiders can enter your home.
Spiders do not like peppermint oil. The strong smell will send them scurrying in the other direction and away from your home.
For an even more potent remedy add one or two drops of peppermint oil onto a cotton bud and place in the areas where spiders enter.
It’s as simple as that!
If you want to try this for yourself then you can purchase a bottle of Plant Therapy Peppermint Oil for less than $7 on Amazon – and with free shipping if you spend $25 or more. Plus this spray bottle would be ideal for this use.
Alternatively you could buy your peppermint oil from this page on Mountain Rose Herbs. MRH are the most trusted and ethical supplier of herbs and essential oils and they carry some wonderful products so take a look around there.
If you’d like to learn more things you can do and ways you can use essential oils, then get a copy of The Complete Book Of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy. It has over 600 recipes for your health, beauty and home and is my absolute favorite book on the topic.
P.S. Mice hate peppermint oil, too!
